catharsis
Relief through expression
Catharsis is emotional release or relief, especially after intense buildup.
The term comes from a Greek word meaning purification or cleansing.
Aristotle used it to describe how tragedy purges pity and fear from audiences.
The concept extends to any experience that provides emotional unburdening: Writing in my journal is cathartic, The movie gave me the catharsis I needed.
In psychology, catharsis refers to releasing repressed emotions, often through expression or reliving past experiences.
