pareidolia

Faces in clouds

Pareidolia is the tendency to perceive meaningful patterns—especially faces—in random or ambiguous stimuli.

Seeing a face in an electrical outlet, the Man in the Moon, or Jesus on a piece of toast are classic examples.

The phenomenon reflects how aggressively the brain searches for familiar forms: Once you see the face in the rock formation, you can't unsee it.
