inkblot test
Symmetrical stain assessment
An inkblot test is a psychological assessment where a person describes what they see in symmetrical ink patterns.
The most famous is the Rorschach test, developed in the 1920s.
Responses supposedly reveal aspects of personality or mental state.
The term extends figuratively to anything ambiguous that people interpret according to their own biases: The candidate's vague platform was an inkblot test for voters.
