Ramesses II

Ancient Egyptian king

Ramesses II, also spelled Ramses, was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 19th dynasty who reigned for approximately 66 years in the 13th century BCE.

Often called Ramesses the Great, he is remembered for military campaigns, monumental building projects including Abu Simbel, and the treaty with the Hittites—one of history's earliest recorded peace agreements.

His mummy survives in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
