royal house
Monarchs' family line
A royal house is a dynasty—a family line from which monarchs descend.
The term names both the lineage and the institution: the House of Windsor, the House of Bourbon.
Royal houses often take their names from ancestral estates, founders, or territories.
A single throne may pass between different royal houses through marriage, conquest, or the extinction of a line.
