Akhenaten

Egypt's heretic king

Akhenaten was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty (ruled c. 1353–1336 BCE) who attempted to transform Egyptian religion by elevating the sun disk Aten above all other gods.

He moved the capital to a new city, abandoned traditional temples, and commissioned art in a distinctive naturalistic style.

His religious revolution was reversed after his death.

He was the father of Tutankhamun.
