Hispanic Americans
Spanish-heritage US citizens
Hispanic Americans are U.S. residents or citizens of Spanish-speaking ancestry, primarily from Latin America or Spain.
The term encompasses diverse national origins—Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, Central and South American.
Hispanic emphasizes linguistic heritage, while Latino emphasizes geographic origin, though the terms overlap considerably and are often used interchangeably: Hispanic Americans are the largest ethnic minority in the United States.
