satrap
Subordinate imperial administrator
A satrap was a provincial governor in the ancient Persian Empire, ruling a region (satrapy) with considerable autonomy under the king.
The term now appears mostly in historical contexts or as a literary word for a subordinate ruler or petty despot: The CEO surrounded himself with satraps who never questioned his decisions.
