HTTP

Browser communication standard

HTTP is Hypertext Transfer Protocol, the system that governs how web browsers and servers communicate.

When you visit a website, your browser sends an HTTP request to a server, which sends back the page content.

The protocol appears at the start of web addresses: http://example.com.

HTTPS adds encryption for security, and has largely replaced plain HTTP for most websites.
