bearer

One who conveys

A bearer is someone who carries or conveys something.

A pallbearer carries a coffin; a standard-bearer carries a flag or, figuratively, leads a cause.

In finance, bearer describes instruments payable to whoever holds them: bearer bonds, bearer checks.

Bearer also appears in compounds indicating someone who brings news or possesses a quality: bearer of bad tidings, the bearer of this letter.
