Https is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol used to transfer web pages over the internet.

The S stands for "secure"—data is encrypted so it can't be intercepted.

Modern browsers display a padlock icon for https connections.

Nearly all websites now use https by default: Make sure the URL starts with https before entering your credit card. (Uppercase HTTPS is the same protocol.)
