SOAP
XML messaging standard
SOAP stands for Simple Object Access Protocol, a messaging protocol for exchanging structured information between web services.
It uses XML formatting and typically runs over HTTP.
Though largely supplanted by REST APIs, SOAP remains common in enterprise and financial systems requiring strict contracts and security. (Lowercase soap is the cleansing substance.)
