Gateway

Passage into somewhere

A gateway is an opening in a wall or fence where a gate is or could be placed—the passage point itself, whether or not a gate exists there.

By extension, gateway describes anything that provides access or entry: St. Louis was the gateway to the West.

A gateway drug is one believed to lead to harder substances.

In computing, a gateway connects different networks, allowing data to pass between them.
