Gateway Arch

St. Louis landmark

The Gateway Arch is a 630-foot stainless steel monument in St.

Louis, Missouri, completed in 1965.

Designed by Eero Saarinen, it commemorates the city's role as the "Gateway to the West" during American westward expansion.

The arch's catenary curve makes it both the tallest monument and tallest accessible structure in the United States.
