Civil War
Nation against itself
The Civil War, without further specification, typically refers to the American Civil War (1861–1865) between the Union and the Confederacy over slavery and secession.
In British contexts, it may mean the English Civil War of the 1640s.
Other nations have their own: the Spanish Civil War, the Russian Civil War.
My great-great-grandfather fought in the Civil War. (Lowercase civil war is the general term for internal armed conflict.)
