disenfranchisement
Stripped of suffrage
Disenfranchisement is the removal or denial of rights, especially voting rights.
Laws requiring identification or restricting polling hours may result in the disenfranchisement of certain groups.
The word extends beyond voting to any loss of privilege or voice: the disenfranchisement of workers from company decisions.
The feeling of being excluded or powerless is also disenfranchisement: Economic inequality breeds disenfranchisement among the young.
