abolitionism
Campaign ending bondage
Abolitionism is the movement or doctrine advocating the abolition of a practice or institution, most commonly slavery.
In historical contexts, it refers specifically to the organized effort to end slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries: Abolitionism gained momentum in Britain before spreading to America.
The term now extends to campaigns against other institutions: prison abolitionism, death penalty abolitionism.
