Captain Kidd
Hanged Scottish privateer
Captain Kidd refers to William Kidd, a 17th-century Scottish sailor who became one of history's most famous pirates.
Originally commissioned as a privateer to hunt pirates, he was later accused of piracy himself and hanged in 1701.
His legend centers on buried treasure that was never found, making his name synonymous with pirate gold and hidden riches: hunting for Captain Kidd's treasure.
