John Paul Jones

Naval war hero

John Paul Jones was an 18th-century Scottish-born naval commander who became a founding figure of the American navy during the Revolutionary War.

His defiant reply to a British demand for surrender—I have not yet begun to fight! —made him a symbol of American naval tenacity.

The name also belongs to the bassist and keyboardist of Led Zeppelin.
