seaman
Ship crew member
A seaman is a sailor, especially one who works aboard a ship as a crew member rather than an officer.
The term applies to both naval and merchant marine contexts.
In military ranks, seaman designates enlisted personnel in the navy: The seaman reported for duty at 0600.
The word has fallen somewhat out of casual use, partly to avoid the homophone semen.
