captive breeding
Managed animal reproduction
Captive breeding is the practice of breeding animals in controlled environments—zoos, aquariums, or specialized facilities—rather than in the wild.
Conservation programs use captive breeding to increase populations of endangered species, sometimes with the goal of eventual reintroduction: The California condor was saved from extinction through captive breeding.
