vivarium
Creature observation box
A vivarium is an enclosed space for keeping and observing living creatures—typically reptiles, amphibians, or insects—in conditions approximating their natural habitat.
Unlike a simple cage or tank, a vivarium recreates an ecosystem with appropriate plants, substrate, humidity, and temperature: The biology classroom had a vivarium with tree frogs and bromeliads.
The term covers terrariums (land environments), aquariums (water), and paludariums (both).
