wheelwrighting

Building wooden wheels

Wheelwrighting is the craft of building and repairing wooden wheels, particularly for carts, wagons, and carriages.

The trade required expertise in shaping spokes, rims, and hubs, then assembling them into a durable wheel.

Once essential to transportation, wheelwrighting is now largely a heritage craft: He learned wheelwrighting from his grandfather, one of the last practicing in the county.
