sulcus

Anatomical fold line

A sulcus is a groove or furrow, used primarily in anatomy.

The brain's surface is folded into ridges (gyri) separated by sulci—the plural form.

Sulci also appear in descriptions of bones, teeth, and other biological structures: the central sulcus divides the frontal and parietal lobes.

The term is technical, rarely appearing outside medical or scientific contexts.
