perfusion
Blood through organs
Perfusion is the passage of fluid through tissue, especially blood flowing through organs and capillaries.
Medical professionals measure perfusion to assess whether tissues are receiving adequate oxygen and nutrients: Poor perfusion in the extremities can indicate circulatory problems.
In medical procedures, perfusion also refers to artificially pumping fluid through an organ or the body, as during heart surgery when a perfusionist operates the heart-lung machine.
