neolithic
Late Stone Age
Neolithic describes the later part of the Stone Age, when humans developed polished stone tools, agriculture, and permanent settlements.
The term literally means "new stone" and covers roughly 10,000 to 4,500 BCE, depending on region.
Used loosely, neolithic means primitively outdated: His views on women are neolithic. (Capitalized Neolithic is standard in archaeological contexts.)
