earthenware

Low-fired ceramic

Earthenware is pottery made from porous clay fired at relatively low temperatures.

It's the oldest and most basic form of ceramic, softer and more fragile than stoneware or porcelain.

Earthenware must be glazed to hold liquids: terracotta pots, rustic earthenware bowls.

The word also works as an adjective: an earthenware jug.
