swale
Boggy land depression
A swale is a low-lying stretch of land, typically moist or marshy.
In landscaping and land management, swales are shallow channels designed to collect and direct rainwater runoff: They dug swales along the contour of the hill to prevent erosion.
The word appears most often in technical contexts—agriculture, urban planning, golf course design.
