breeding
Mating for reproduction
Breeding is the process of mating animals or plants to produce offspring, especially to develop desired traits: selective breeding, a breeding program for endangered species.
The breeding season is when animals mate.
Breeding also means upbringing and manners—someone of good breeding behaves with refinement and social grace.
A breeding ground is where animals reproduce, or figuratively, where something develops: a breeding ground for crime.
