switchgrass
Native American tallgrass
Switchgrass is a tall North American prairie grass, native to much of the continent east of the Rockies.
It grows in dense clumps and can reach heights of six feet or more.
Once valued primarily for erosion control and wildlife habitat, switchgrass has gained attention as a potential biofuel crop: Farmers are experimenting with switchgrass as a renewable energy source.
