sedge

Wetland grass relative

Sedge is a grass-like plant that grows in wetlands and along waterways.

Sedges have triangular stems and are often found in marshes, bogs, and along pond edges: The marsh was thick with sedge and cattails.

The plants are distinguished from true grasses by the mnemonic "sedges have edges"—referring to their three-sided stems.
