senator
Elected upper legislator
A senator is a member of a senate—a legislative body, typically the upper chamber of a bicameral legislature.
In the United States, each state elects two senators to the federal Senate, where they serve six-year terms.
Many countries and some U.S. states have their own senates.
The title carries considerable prestige: Senator Warren spoke on the floor.
As a form of address, it remains appropriate even after leaving office.
