veto
Kill a bill
Veto is the power to reject or block a decision, especially a legislative act.
The U.S. president can veto bills passed by Congress; the UN Security Council's permanent members hold veto power over resolutions.
More broadly, to veto is to forbid or refuse to allow: My mother vetoed the idea of a road trip.
A veto is also the act itself: The governor's veto killed the bill.
