justice
What courts pursue
Justice is a righteous word that conveys the quality of being fair.
It frequently arises when someone has been wronged or injured; justice is sought to right the wrong.
For this reason, justice is closely tied to law; laws are designed to ensure that justice will prevail.
In some courts, especially the highest court within a jurisdiction, the judges are called justices.
The criminal justice system is the whole network of police, courts, prisons and the like.
