congressman
Elected Capitol legislator
A congressman is a member of a congress, especially the United States Congress.
The term applies to members of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, though in practice it usually refers to representatives: My congressman voted against the bill.
The gender-neutral congressperson exists but sees limited use; congresswoman is the standard feminine form.
