nominee

Name on ballot

A nominee is a person who has been proposed or selected for something—a position, an award, or a role.

In elections, nominees are candidates chosen to represent a party: the Democratic nominee for president.

In awards, nominees are finalists under consideration: an Oscar nominee.

In legal and financial contexts, a nominee may be someone designated to act on another's behalf or hold assets in their name.
