cabinet secretary
Presidential adviser, agency
A cabinet secretary is the head of an executive department in the U.S. federal government, appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate: The cabinet secretary testified before Congress.
Cabinet secretaries oversee major agencies—Defense, Treasury, State, and others—and serve as the president's chief advisors in their domains.
In British usage, the Cabinet Secretary is instead the senior civil servant coordinating cabinet business.
