Visual territory guides
Maps are visual representations of geographic areas, showing features like roads, borders, and terrain.
The word extends to any diagram showing relationships or structure: a gene map, a site map.
To map something is to chart it or establish correspondences: Scientists mapped the human genome.
To map out a plan is to plot it in detail.
