hryvnia
Kyiv's monetary unit
The hryvnia is the basic unit of Ukrainian currency, divided into 100 kopiykas.
The word derives from an ancient unit of weight for silver and gold.
The hryvnia strengthened against the dollar after the aid package was announced.
Also spelled hryvnya or grivna.
