The lower depths
The nether regions are the parts below—originally the underworld or hell, now usually a euphemism for the genitals or buttocks.
The phrase carries a slightly comic tone, as if too polite to name body parts directly: The doctor asked about discomfort in my nether regions.
Nether itself means lower or under, surviving mainly in this expression and in the Netherlands.
