pressure vessel
Pressurized storage container
A pressure vessel is a container designed to hold gases or liquids at pressures substantially different from ambient air pressure.
Industrial examples include boilers, storage tanks for compressed gases, and nuclear reactor containments.
Because catastrophic failure can cause explosions, pressure vessels are subject to strict engineering standards and regular inspection: The plant was shut down after inspectors found cracks in a pressure vessel.
