dams
Hydroelectric power sources
Dams is the plural of dam—a barrier built across a river or stream to hold back water: Beavers build dams from sticks and mud.
The word also refers to female parents of animals, especially horses and dogs: The pups' dams were both champions.
As a verb, to dam is to block or obstruct flow: They dammed the creek to create a swimming hole.
