pascal

SI pressure measure

A pascal is the SI unit of pressure, equal to one newton per square meter.

Named after the French mathematician and physicist Blaise Pascal, it measures stress, tensile strength, and atmospheric pressure.

Weather reports often use hectopascals (hPa) or kilopascals (kPa) since the base unit is quite small: Standard atmospheric pressure is about 101,325 pascals. (Capitalized Pascal is the programming language or surname.)
