cage

Zoo animal's home

A cage is a framework enclosure for animals.

Several things that look like this also get the name, like the wire mask that a baseball catcher wears, or the enclosure for the goal in hockey.

Cage is also an informal term for prison, because of its confining associations.

To cage is to confine in a cage or otherwise restrict activity or movement.

If you rattle someone’s cage, you annoy them, typically in a pestering and effective way.
