boiler

Industrial water heater

A boiler is a large tank or vessel in which water is heated, typically to produce steam for heating buildings or powering engines.

Industrial boilers generate steam for manufacturing processes or electricity generation.

In domestic settings, a boiler heats water for radiators or household use.

The term also applies informally to a chicken too old and tough for roasting, suitable only for long, slow cooking in liquid—hence boiler as opposed to broiler.
