tee

Ball's starting perch

A tee is a small peg used in golf to elevate the ball for the first stroke on each hole; by extension, the teeing ground itself.

To tee off is to begin play, and figuratively to begin anything or to anger someone: That really teed him off.

A tee is also a T-shaped fitting in plumbing, or short for T-shirt.

The letter T itself.
