drywall

Interior wall sheets

Drywall is the standard interior wall material in modern construction, consisting of gypsum plite pressed between paper sheets.

It replaced plaster-and-lath construction because it's faster and cheaper to install—you screw or nail the panels to studs, tape the seams, and apply joint compound.

As a verb, to drywall means to install this material: We spent the weekend drywalling the basement.

Also called wallboard, gypsum board, or by the brand name Sheetrock.
