subprocess
Spawned secondary task
A subprocess is a process spawned by another process, inheriting some of the parent's environment while running independently.
In computing, programs often launch subprocesses to handle specific tasks: The script runs each conversion as a subprocess.
The term applies broadly to any secondary procedure nested within a larger one.
