note

Jotted written reminder

The many verb and noun uses of note nearly all have to do with documentation or notice (an obviously related word).

If you note something, you either observe it, or both observe it and write down something about it.

If you ask someone to note something, you want them to pay particular attention.

A note is the product of noting: Did you take notes at the lecture?

A note can also be a feature of something with a particular quality: She ended her talk on a positive note. There are notes of garlic and rosemary in the sauce.

In music, notes are individual tones. #
