penstock
Turbine intake pipe
A penstock is a pipe or channel that controls and directs water flow, typically to a water wheel or turbine in a hydroelectric plant.
The term also refers to a sluice gate that regulates water in a mill race or canal.
The old penstock fed water to the mill's wheel.
